Coffee was introduced to Vietnam in the late 19th century by French Colonists, where it quickly became a huge hit amongst the Vietnamese and also a huge hit for the economy as Vietnam quickly became a huge exporter of coffee.

Vietnamese Coffee (also called cafe sua da) is a type of ice coffee brewed with a dark french roast often with chicory sweetened with condensed milk.   Cafe sua da is prepared in individual servings and brewed in front of the customer.   Coarsely ground coffee is placed in a metal Vietnamese coffee filter that sits atop a coffee cup.  Hot water is poured into the filter and the coffee slowly drips into cup over a period of about 5-7 minutes.  Once the coffee has been brewed the coffee is poured into a glass with ice and condensed milk.
